DEATH AND THE KINGS HORSEMAN

Soyinka’s classic play is set in 1940s Nigeria and centers around the colonial infringement upon the funeral rites of the King, and his horseman, Elesin, who plans to sacrifice himself to follow his king in death. I got to collaborate with a design team for this theoretical project. We wanted to focus our energy into the women of the piece, because they lead the community and also carry the continuation of the story after Elesin and Olunde pass.
